POKOTABI / Kaisenzan
海鮮山 池袋店
From lunchtime seafood bowls and sashimi set meals to evening sashimi platters and fish dishes, Kaisenzan offers everything from a bowl served with fish-head soup to a relaxed meal of local sake and small plates.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Diners who order the seafood bowls often comment on the range and quantity of sashimi, and some say the regular portion is filling enough on its own. Alongside the lunchtime seafood bowl, the menu includes the Premium Seafood Bowl and Three-Colour Bowl, both with free extra rice. Some diners report that the large serving is substantial, so you can choose the regular portion or go for extra rice when you have a bigger appetite.
One diner who had fish-head soup with a bowl noted that it contained a good amount of fish and could be refilled. The soup adds a savoury fish-based accompaniment to a lunch centred on sashimi. If you would prefer a set meal, options include the Sashimi Set, Grilled Fish Set and Nigiri Set, all listed on the menu.
In the evening, you can start with a sashimi platter, available in 5- and 7-item sizes, then add a few fish dishes. White-fish head can be grilled, steamed with sake or simmered; the grilled collar is marked as large or extra-large, making it possible to choose a portion to suit your appetite or the number of people at the table. For lighter bites, there are options such as deep-fried eggplant in broth and house-made satsuma-age (fried fish cakes), while the house-special ochazuke—rice with tea or broth—is a possible way to finish.
The menu also features local sake from around Japan, making Kaisenzan an option for an evening of drinks and a succession of fish-centred small plates. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and reservations are available for dinner.
